Ervín Hoida dies at 105: Cause of death and obituary information

One of the last Czechoslovak veterans of World War II, who lived most of his life in Great Britain, Ervín Hoida died at the age of 105.

Ervín Hoida’s cause of death was not given. However, the Ministry of Defence announced on the social network X on Thursday.

Ervin Hoida was born in Ostrava in 1918, escaped Czechoslovakia after the Nazi occupation in 1939, and served in France and later with the Czechoslovak armored brigade in the UK.

After D-Day, he took part in the liberation of Europe. He returned to Czechoslovakia in 1945 but went back to the UK a few months later due to the rising communist threat.

Ervin Hoida received an award in his home country only after the Velvet Revolution, when the then president Václav Havel promoted him to the rank of major, and last year the Minister of Defense Jana Černochová awarded him the State Defense Cross on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Army of the Czech Republic.
