Eric Michael Swalwell is a lawyer and politician from California’s 15th congressional district who has been in office since 2013.
His district encompasses the majority of eastern Alameda County and a portion of central Contra Costa County.

Joshua Swalwell is Eric’s sibling.
Swalwell worked as a student liaison to the College Park City Council while attending the University of Maryland, College Park.
He then served as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California, for Ellen Tauscher. Prior to his election to Congress, he was named to many city committees and served on the Dublin City Council for one term.
Swalwell has served as a member of the House Democratic Steering Committee since 2017. From April through July 2019, he ran in the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries for 2020.
Swalwell was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2012, upsetting incumbent Pete Stark, who had held the position since 1973.
Stark was a Democrat who was over a half-century Swalwell’s senior. Swalwell was inaugurated on January 3, 2013.
