According to reports, Roma and Manchester United are in negotiations for the transfer of Eric Bailly.
But as was previously reported, the defender plans to pass up a chance to work with Jose Mourinho in favor of competing for a position under Erik ten Hag.
During Mourinho’s two and a half years as Old Trafford manager, Bailly and the Portuguese worked together. The £30 million player was Mourinho’s very first acquisition from Villarreal in 2016.
The 28-year-old former Espanyol defender has played in 113 matches in all competitions and was a member of Mourinho’s squad in 2017 that won the League Cup and Europa League.
The Ivory Coast star and the Special One are currently vying for another meeting in Italy. Mourinho wants to strengthen the defense of the Europa Conference League champions and believes Bailly is the best choice.
And it’s believed that Bailly could experience the same career revival that Chris Smalling did at the Stadio Olimpico.
Several media outlets have now confirmed that Jose Mourinho wants the United center-back.
