Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is visiting Trinidad and Tobago to meet with representatives of the Petroleum Commission (PC), Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BEST), and GOIL PLC, the upstream petroleum regulator, to learn about best practices, investigate cutting-edge technologies, and find possible collaborations.
This follows initiatives aimed at securing value maximization and retention through bolstering the connections between Ghana’s upstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
To support Ghana’s industrialization agenda, the Minister, who is also a Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, believes that Trinidad and Tobago, with its extensive history and experience in hydrocarbon exploration, production, refining, and transportation, will be a viable partner for the country’s oil and gas and affiliated industries.
Site visits to transportation hubs, storage terminals, and oil refineries will all be part of the trip to T&T. It will also involve meetings with representatives from the government, business, and academia to talk about topics of shared interest between the energy sectors of the two nations.
The team of the Minister visited Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago (1978) Limited yesterday, February 20, 2024. The company is a fully owned state entity tasked with ensuring the commercial exploitation of Trinidad and Tobago’s Pitch Lake, the largest natural asphalt deposit in the world.
The Minister hinted at future talks on cooperation for shared interests following lengthy talks, a tour of the lake, and an understanding of the business’s activities, which also involve the production of bitumen emulsions.
In addition to providing a chance to investigate cutting-edge technology across the oil and gas value chain, this working visit is anticipated to strengthen the bonds and promote cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago’s and Ghana’s energy sectors.
