Emma Corrin demands gender-neutral categories in award shows

Emma Corrin, a former “Crown” actress, asked on Friday that more award ceremonies start incorporating gender-neutral categories.

It is time for award shows to start combining the “best actor” and “best actress” categories, says the “My Policeman” performer, who came out as non-binary in July 2021, according to BBC.

“I don’t think the categories are inclusive enough at the moment,” said Corrin. “It’s about everyone being able to feel acknowledged and represented.”

The 26-year-portrayal old’s of Princess Diana in the fourth season of the popular Netflix series “The Crown” is what makes them most well-known.

Corrin demanded greater LGBTQ+ inclusion while claiming that television and film are also somewhat to blame.

“The conversation needs to be about having more representation in the material itself, in the content that we are seeing for nonbinary people, for queer people, for trans people, because then I think that will change a lot,” stated by Corrin

“When those parts come up, meaning more people and more actors are playing those roles, then I think there will be more of an urgency with which these questions will be addressed.”

The British awards were “engaged in proactive and thoughtful consultation on this subject.” a representative said. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the Oscars, is reportedly rumored to be considering revamping the categories as we speak.
