Elvis Costello genres: What genres does Elvis Costello perform?

Although he has created many monster hits, many fans of Costello are confused about the genre the songwriter and singer is tied to.

So far, Costello has explored four music genres in his career. They are new wave, power pop, punk rock, and pub rock.

His fourth studio album Get Happy!! was the first of his many experiments with genres beyond those with which he is ordinarily associated.

It also marked a distinct change in mood from the angry, frustrated tone of his first three albums to a more upbeat, happy manner.
