Tavares began her publishing career with the major Sunday newspaper The Observer in the United Kingdom.
There, she studied the printing and advertising sales industry.
Her success there led to a position at the U.K. trade journal Screen International, where she progressed to the post of managing director, restructuring and turning the firm profitable.
It was later purchased by a publishing business in the United Kingdom.
Tavares’ background in consumer, trade, and national newspaper publishing, along with her knowledge of the worldwide film business, led to the establishment of The Business of Film, which has offices in London and Los Angeles. ‘
She took pleasure in pioneering new technology, and she was the first international trade daily to transition to fully electronic distribution and incorporate online engagement between advertisers and readers.
She is survived by her son and grandson.
She was 71 years old.
