Elspeth Howe was born on February 8, 1932. She is the daughter of the writer Philip Morton Shand and a half-aunt to Camilla, Duchess Cornwall – a member of the British royal family.
She got married to a rising politician Geoffrey Howe in 1953 and had three children – Caroline, and twins, Amanda and Ale.
