The billionaire Elon Musk made light of Twitter’s content moderation procedures by suggesting that even Paul Revere, a hero of the American Revolution, would have been subject to censorship.

The “Twitter in 1775” meme that Musk published on Monday included a tweet version of Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere’s well-known warning about the impending British attack on the colonies.

“The British are coming, the British are coming!” the fictional tweet said.

The meme joked that Twitter would have attached a disclaimer label to Revere’s post urging readers to “learn how British taxes are beneficial for society.”

Later, in response to a tweet from a user asking if he was aware that “JBP” had recently been banned from the app, Musk responded.

This tweet appeared to be directed at controversial Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, who had been suspended due to its attack on transgender actor Elliot Page.
