14 people were saved by Tunisia’s coast guard when the boat transporting 37 migrants to Italy capsized on Tuesday.

According to the state news agency TAP, five more remains were found on Saturday night, bringing the total to 11.

It is estimated that more than 1,000 migrants have perished this year trying to cross the central Mediterranean.

The International Organization for Migration, a UN organization, provided the statistics. 960 of the 1,033 migrants categorized as missing or deceased are believed to have drowned.

The Tunisian boat departed from the Sfax area, and it sank around 40 miles up the coast, close to Chebba, Mahdia.

People seeking to cross the Mediterranean in order to get to Europe now frequently leave from the shoreline near Sfax.

The Italian island of Lampedusa, which is situated between Sicily and Tunisia’s eastern coast, is frequently a stop for those making their way from north Africa to Europe.
