The minister of communications and digitization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has responded to speculation that she will be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election.
The Ablekuma West Member of Parliament (MP) asserted that he had several conversations with Dr. Bawumia, but none of them concerned the vice presidential candidate.
A number of contenders have emerged to be the Vice President’s running mates after the latter is selected to head the NPP on November 4, 2023.
Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, education minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and energy minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh have all reportedly emerged as front-runners.
John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Ashanti, and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education, are two other names that are being mentioned.
Rumor has it that Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful are also candidates. However, the MP appeared surprised when asked to confirm in an interview, saying, “Saa” to wit really? in Twi.
“Dr. Bawumia and I have spoken several times, but we haven’t talked about the running mate position. We must start working now. I think it would be best if we let him select his own running mate.
It is best for Bawumia to take his time finding the person he really wants. We have been talking about what we need to do as a party and to help the people this year,” she said on Accra-based UTV.
