Election 2024: Smaller parties, others urged to form third force

The Roundtable Dialogue (RTD) has called for smaller parties and independent aspirants to join forces as a third political force in the upcoming General Election in December. The RTD emphasized the need for an alternative to the dominant political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During a press briefing in Accra, Dr Ofosu Baako, Secretary of RTD, urged the collaboration of various political organizations and independent candidates to present a united front in the elections. He stressed the importance of a consensus presidential candidate to challenge the NPP and NDC candidates, as well as unified parliamentary candidates in all constituencies.

The RTD has already secured the support of 14 groups through a Memorandum of Understanding to provide Ghanaians with an alternative choice in the upcoming elections. Mr Explo Nani-Kofi, Chairman of RTD, highlighted the success of their strategy in the 2020 parliamentary elections in South Dayi, which has inspired them to implement the approach at a national level.

The Roundtable Dialogue aims to streamline the voting process by offering only three candidates on each ballot sheet – the NPP and NDC presidential candidates, and an alternative presidential candidate. Their focus is on addressing leadership, governance, decolonization, and development issues for the collective interest of the country.

The RTD encourages like-minded individuals to collaborate with them and contribute their resources, skills, and strengths to secure parliamentary and presidential seats for the betterment of Ghana. The call for a third force in the December General Election reflects a growing sentiment for change and a desire for a new political landscape in the country.
