A Primary election is ongoing in the Ejisu Constituency to choose a replacement for the late Member of Parliament, Dr John Kumah. The election, being held with over 1,000 New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates, includes nine contenders vying for the position. Notable among these candidates is former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set April 30 as the date for the Ejisu Constituency by-election. The winner of the ongoing primary will face competition from former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who has declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election.

The by-election has been triggered by the passing of Dr John Kumah and the dissatisfaction expressed by some party members regarding irregularities in the Ejisu polling station executive elections. This dissatisfaction has prompted the former MP to contest independently.

The primary election is seen as crucial in determining the candidate who will represent the NPP in the upcoming by-election. Each aspirant is optimistic about their chances, with many attributing significance to the number they drew in the ballot. The results of the ongoing primary will shape the political landscape in the Ejisu Constituency and set the stage for the upcoming by-election on April 30.
