The campaign team of the Independent Candidate and former NPP MP for the Ejisu constituency, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has vowed to closely monitor the ballots in the upcoming by-election on April 30. They have made it clear that they will fiercely defend their candidate’s ballots with all their might.
Accusations have also been leveled against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NDC) for alleged vote-buying tactics, pointing to large-scale infrastructure projects being carried out in the constituency, such as road construction. The team has warned the NPP to refrain from voter suppression tactics leading up to the by-election.
During a media briefing in Ejisu, the Campaign Coordinator for Mr. Aduomi, Isaac Boafo, reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. He highlighted concerns over alleged nefarious schemes by the NPP to manipulate the by-election outcome.
The team raised alarms about various illegal actions purportedly planned by the NPP, including paying off electoral officers, orchestrating power outages during vote counting, ballot box stuffing, and attempting to transfer ineligible senior high school students to vote.
Furthermore, the team criticized the NPP’s attempts to paint their candidate as being sponsored by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Campaign activities have intensified in the constituency as parties gear up for the by-election, with six candidates from different parties and independents vying for votes.
The team’s full statement detailed the alleged malicious tactics employed by the NPP, including deploying military personnel to intimidate opposition strongholds, bribing officials, and planning to utilize macho men to snatch ballot boxes. They also condemned the misuse of state resources for vote-buying and misinformation campaigns against their candidate.
The team emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and urged constituents to make a resounding statement in support of democracy and justice during the upcoming by-election. They challenged the NPP’s false claims regarding their candidate’s community development projects and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting genuine community development.
