Eike Christian Hirsch was a journalist and novelist from Germany who died on August 7, 2022.

In Göttingen, Heidelberg, and Basel, he studied theology and philosophy. He worked as an editor in sound broadcasting at the NDR until 1996, and thereafter as a freelance writer. He published works about faith and the German language. He also created “Deutsch für Besserwisser,” a set of amusing word definitions that were initially published in the Stern and then gathered into a book.
