Eight persons, including four elementary school students and a teacher, are in critical condition following the collapse of a school building in the Eastern region’s Upper West Akim District.
According to reports, the regrettable occurrence happened on Wednesday during the Domeabra Zonal Inter School Sports.
Three members of the community who attended to watch the tournament are reportedly among the victims.
According to TV3, they are presently being treated at the Adeiso District Hospital in Accra.
The incident was confirmed by Zonal Vice Chairman John Priestly Badu, who also stated that the event was taking place in the Sukrung Awemfi D/A primary grounds.
Nevertheless, it began to rain, so they were forced to take cover in the run-down school building.
Unfortunately, at approximately 4:30 p.m., three classrooms collapsed, trapping the victims within. They were saved by onlookers who hurried them to the hospital.
“We have written to the MP and DCE on multiple occasions to address that school, but we have not received a positive response. “This is a grave circumstance,” he declared.
