New Zealand Greens MP Efeso Collins has died. He was a Manukau ward councilor on Auckland Council from 2016 to 2022 when he stood down and unsuccessfully contested the 2022 Auckland mayoral election.

Efeso Collins died after running in a charity event in Auckland. The 49-year-old collapsed on Wednesday morning in Auckland after running in the ChildFund Water Run, a fundraiser for Pacific communities.
The Greens confirmed the news “with profound shock and sadness’ at 10.45 am.
“We are devastated. A beautiful family has lost a dedicated father, husband, and community leader,” co-leaders James Shaw and Marama Davidson said in a statement.
“Aotearoa and the Green Party have lost one of the kindest, most dedicated champions of fairness and equality.”
Efeso Collins’s obituary information
Efeso Collins was born and raised in the Auckland suburb of Ōtara. He was the youngest of six children of a bus driver and Pentecostal Church pastor Tauiliili Sio Collins and factory worker and cleaner Lotomau Collins. His parents immigrated to New Zealand from Samoa in the 1960s. He bore the Samoan matai title of Fa’anana from the village of Satufia, Satupaitea, Savai’i. He was brought up as a Pentecostal Christian.
