Eddie Jerome Vedder, born Edward Louis Severson III on December 23, 1964, is an American singer, musician, and composer best known as Pearl Jam’s main voice and one of the band’s four guitarists. He also sang as a guest vocalist in Temple of the Dog, a tribute band too the late singer Andrew Wood.

Vedder married Hovercraft bassist Beth Liebling in 1994, after dating her since he was a teenager, around 1984. Vedder was the drummer for Hovercraft, who opened for Mike Watt’s US tour in 1995.

In September 2000, the couple divorced. In an interview published in the June 29, 2006 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Vedder admitted that his divorce from Liebling had shattered him.

The divorce occurred at the same time as Pearl Jam’s biggest tragedy, June 30, 2000, the killing of nine fans at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark.

In an interview with Chris Cornell’s daughter Lily in 2020, Vedder revealed that their show started off on a high because they had just learned of her birth until tragedy struck approximately 40 minutes into their performance. According to Vedder, Pete Townshend assisted him in the early stages of dealing with the disaster.
