Edward Christopher Sheeran, MBE (born February 17, 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. When he was eleven years old, he began to write songs. He was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framingham, Suffolk. Early in 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play No. 5 Collaborations Project. He joined Asylum Records the next year.
Sheeran’s debut album, +, came in first place on the UK Albums Chart (pronounced “plus”). It was released in September of that year. His first number-one single, “The A Team,” was among them. At the 2012 Brit Awards, Sheeran won Best British Male Solo Artist as well as British Breakthrough Act. Sheeran’s second studio album, (pronounced “multiply”), topped charts all over the world when it was released in June 2014.
In the same year that he won Album of the Year at the 2015 Brit Awards, the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors gave him the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. With the album’s song “Thinking Out Loud,” he won the 2016 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
When Sheeran’s third album, Divide, was released in March, it quickly became the most popular song in the entire world. “Shape of You” and “Castle of the Hill,” the album’s first two singles, broke records by making their debuts at the top of the charts in numerous different countries.
