American pop singer and actor Edmund Dantes Urick, better known by his stage name Ed Ames, was born on July 9, 1927, and he died on May 21, 2023.

Sarah and David Urick, Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, gave birth to Ames in Malden, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of nine kids, five boys and four girls.

He was a member of the renowned singing trio the Ames Brothers in the 1950s together with his siblings. Early in the 1960s, the Ames Brothers broke up, and Ed Ames enrolled at the Herbert Berghof School to pursue an acting career.

Ed Ames made his acting debut in an off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Later in his career, he featured in the Broadway musicals Carnival! and The Fantasticks.

Ames’ unique baritone can be heard on the radio throughout the Christmas season. Bing Crosby performed the song in 1962, but Ames’ recording from a few years later is commonly heard during the holidays. Ames also performed “Ballad of the War Wagon” in the 1967 film The War Wagon, directed by John Wayne and produced by Batjac Productions.
