Jeremie Frimpong, the Dutch defender of Ghanaian descent, was mobbed by jubilant fans of Bayer Leverkusen as he was hailed as one of the heroes in the club’s historic first-ever German Bundesliga title win.
The club secured the impressive feat by defeating Werder Bremen 5-0 at the Bay Arena on Sunday evening, beating out giants Bayern Munich for the championship.
The matchday saw Victor Boniface give Bayer Leverkusen the lead with a goal from 12 yards before Granit Xhaka equalized in the 60th minute to make it 2-0. The talented attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz then stole the show with a sensational hat-trick, leading Bayer Leverkusen to a resounding 5-0 victory and clinching the league title with five games to spare.
Despite not starting the game against Werder Bremen, Jeremie Frimpong was brought on in the second half to replace Nathan Tella. In a show of appreciation, fans of Bayer Leverkusen carried Frimpong and sang songs in celebration of the title triumph.
Throughout the season, Frimpong has been a standout performer, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 27 league appearances.
