A Scottish actor best known for his roles in ID2: Shadwell Army and Tomb Raider, was born on May 23, 1961, to Duncan Campbell. James is Yoshi Takahashi’s uncle. James was a rugby prodigy while attending the tuition-paying Keil School. When he started learning Shotokan karate, he first developed an interest in martial arts.

He was also a drummer and played in a number of bands, including Nazareth. He moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the US to investigate potential new artistic opportunities. He is the older sibling of Scottish composer Ross Campbell.

He entered the K-1 battle as the first Scottish fighter after defeating a global Muay Thai champion. He had previously competed in heavyweight kickboxing. In the late 1980s, he returned to Scotland and began training in Muay Thai kickboxing. He won the Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Championship of the World Kickboxing Association in 1993, which was his first championship.

He abandoned that title after successfully defending it and went up to the cruiserweight and eventually the heavyweight divisions, where he won a series of further titles. He made his K-1 debut in February 1999 at K-1 Rising Sun ’99 against Japanese great Musashi and lost through technical knockout after being taken down three times in the third round.
