Devi and Duane Brown

Duane Anthony Brown (born August 30, 1985) is an American football offensive tackle for the National Football League’s New York Jets (NFL). He attended Virginia Tech and was drafted in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Brown also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks.

Brown was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and attended Hermitage High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He worked alongside Fontel Mines. He averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per game in basketball. He competed in the throwing events at track and field. He finished fourth in the Group AAA outdoor shot put competition in 2003. In the shot put, he threw 17.32 meters (56.8 feet) and in the discus, he threw 44.68 meters (146.6 feet).

Brown, who weighed only 250 pounds (113 kg) out of high school, was rated as a three-star tight-end prospect by Rivals.com.

Brown attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg after graduating from high school, where he played for Frank Beamer’s Hokies. He redshirted as a true freshman (2003) before playing in all thirteen games in 2004 and catching his first collegiate pass for a touchdown against the Western Michigan Broncos. He switched from tight end to offensive tackle in 2005, starting every game and playing 673 offensive snaps during the regular season.
