Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball anime and manga, passed away at the age of 68. The manga publisher Bird Studio, which Akira Toriyama established in 1983, acknowledged the news of his passing.

Renowned Japanese manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to an abrupt subdural hemorrhage which is a blood clot in the brain, also referred to as a subdural haematoma.

Japan’s Aichi prefecture’s capital city, Nagoya, is where Akira Toriyama was born. From an early age, he drew pictures, mostly of the cars and animals he liked.

He talked about how One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) left him speechless and how it drew him further into the art of drawing because he wanted to create images that good.

When he first saw a television at a neighbor’s house in elementary school, and later when he saw the manga collection of a classmate’s older brother, he was once more taken aback.

Akira Toriyama became one of Japan’s best-selling manga authors and gained international acclaim when he created Dragon Ball in 1984.

Drawing inspiration from an earlier work named Dragon Boy, Dragon Ball was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump for 519 chapters between 1984 and 1995.

This led to the creation of a successful franchise that included an English-language comic book series, five different television adaptations (of which Dragon Ball Z is the most well-known to western audiences), spin-offs, more than 20 different films, and an extensive selection of video games.

On May 2, 1982, Toriyama wed Yoshimi Katō. She is a former manga artist from Nagoya who worked under the pen name “Nachi Mikami” on Dr. Slump on occasion to help Toriyama and his helper when they ran out of stuff.

Their two children were a daughter born in October 1990 and a son named Sasuke born on March 23, 1987.

Living in Kiyosu, Toriyama had his own studio. He had a reputation for being a loner who shied away from the spotlight.
