Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, according to former president John Dramani Mahama, is unable to absolve himself of the “mess” that is the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
He said that Dr. Bawumia, who is currently running as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the 2024 election, cannot claim he is not involved in the government’s “failures” because he participated in every decision made by President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, Vice President Bawumia shared in all cabinet decisions and should thus be held equally accountable for the government’s positive and negative aspects.
As part of his town hall engagements, Mr. Mahama, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, spoke to NDC supporters in Tamale, Northern Region.
In a speech to the public on Wednesday, February 6, 2024, Dr. Bawumia laid out his platform as a potential presidential candidate.
In order to improve Ghana’s economic situation, he asked attendees of the speech, which was held in the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium, to grant him the opportunity to lead the nation.
Since Dr. Bawumia was a key player in the Akufo-Addo-led administration, former President Mahama stated that it is inadmissible that he was not accountable for the government’s main choices.
“You went and borrowed 13.5 billion dollars and you did nothing with it for six years,” he continued, alleging that Dr. Bawumia was also involved in all of the loans that the administration led by Akufo-Addo had taken.
You cannot thus come here today and claim that you were not involved. They’re all a part of the disaster we’ve got ourselves into.
