Don’t kill the businesses of your opponents – Mahama to African leaders

Former President John Mahama has raised concerns about the treatment of businesses owned by political opponents by African governments. He believes that the targeting of such businesses is hindering the growth of affluent African-owned businesses on the continent.

Speaking at the Afro-Heritage Conference and Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr Mahama emphasized the importance of governments refraining from actions that could destroy businesses belonging to their political adversaries. He highlighted the significant contribution these businesses make to the development of their countries and Africa as a whole.

During a panel discussion at the event, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) urged Africans to support and encourage their compatriots in their entrepreneurial endeavors. He stressed the need for a supportive environment for businesses, regardless of the owner’s political affiliation, to foster progress on the continent.

Mr Mahama emphasized the importance of promoting unity and solidarity among Africans for the advancement of the continent. He encouraged Africans to support each other’s success and endeavors, paving the way for the development and prosperity of current and future generations.

In his remarks, Mahama stated, “We must not be afraid for our business people to succeed, we must not be afraid to have rich Africans. Governments must not come and think that because some other governments created this business, then we must kill it. That’s part of the problem that we have. We must believe in ourselves, in adversity comes opportunities.”

By supporting one another and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, Africans can contribute to the growth and prosperity of the continent. Mahama’s call for African governments to support businesses owned by political opponents reflects a commitment to fostering economic development and unity across the continent.
