Loretta Lynn was an American country music performer and composer who lived from April 14, 1932, until October 4, 2022. In a six-decade career, Lynn put out several gold records. She had a ton of successes, including “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,” “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind”),”One’s on the Way,” and “Fist City.” Based on her life, the 1980 movie Coal Miner’s Daughter was created.

For her revolutionary work in country music, Lynn garnered numerous honors and awards, including recognition from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music as a duet partner and a solo performer, respectively. She had 18 Grammy Award nominations, and she took home three of them.

Visitors may get a look into the grueling work life of men like her father at a replica coal mine, while Hurricane Mills’ original 1876 post office is housed in the ancient gristmill along with a recreated company store and a moonshine still.

Clara, her mother, had Cherokee and Scots-Irish descent. Ted, her father, worked as a farmer, storekeeper, and coal miner.
