Linda Purl, an American actress and singer, was born on September 2, 1955. She is best known for her roles as Ashley Pfister, Fonzie’s girlfriend, on Happy Days (she made her Happy Days debut as Gloria, Richie’s date, in season 2 episode 6), Sheila Munroe, Pam Beesly’s mother in The Office, and Charlene Matlock, Ben Matlock’s daughter, in the first season of the Matlock television series.
Purl was born on September 2, 1955, to Raymond Charles Arthur Purl, a chemical industry professional, and his Jewish mother.
Purl will be triumphantly returning to the Conservatory in 2014 after an intense solo performance of “The Year of Magical Thinking,” the Broadway musical based on Joan Didion’s novel, in 2013. Purl sung in front of her mother, who was dying. Her mom died peacefully five days afterwards. After leaving Matlock, Purl began a career in jazz music and has since recorded several CDs, including Out of This World – Live.
