The son of Lee Renner, who ran a bowling alley, and Valerie (Tague), Jeremy Lee Renner was born in Modesto, California. Renner went to Modesto Junior College after completing his high school education at Beyer and had a turbulent but happy childhood with his four younger siblings. Before the theater department, with its freedom of emotional expression, pulled him in, he investigated a number of fields of study, including computer science, criminology, and psychology.
Renner committed his life to theater while residing in Los Angeles, co-starring and directing the highly regarded “Search and Destroy.” During this time, he also pursued other endeavors, scoring his first movie part in 1995’s National Lampoon’s Senior Trip (1995). Renner gained the attention of reviewers with his compelling, nuanced portrayal of the notorious serial killer in the 2002 film Dahmer, which followed various commercials and supporting parts in television movies and series (2002). Renner’s performance, for which he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award, is particularly noteworthy since it renders the title character in a sympathetic and humanistic yet extremely unsettling light.
