Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor has dished out some valuable advice to Ghana’s top clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, on player recruitment.
Akonnor, who has had coaching stints at both clubs, stressed the importance of conducting thorough evaluations before signing new players.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor highlighted the need for careful assessment and psychological preparation when bringing in players. He pointed out that not all players who excel in lower-tier clubs are necessarily cut out for the pressure that comes with playing for Hearts or Kotoko.
“Just because a player is performing well in a lower-tier league doesn’t guarantee success when they join Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko,” Akonnor advised. This caution comes in light of the criticism both clubs have faced from fans over the years for signing players who fail to meet expectations.
With Akonnor’s wealth of experience in coaching, his advice serves as a valuable reminder for clubs to rethink their recruitment strategies.
By taking the time to thoroughly evaluate potential signings and ensuring they are mentally prepared for the challenges ahead, both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko can avoid disappointment and set themselves up for success on the pitch.
