In 2007, Hounsou began dating model Kimora Lee Simmons. In 2009, Simmons gave birth to their son, Kenzo Lee Hounsou. Hounsou and Simmons visited Hounsou’s family in his native Benin in the summer of 2008, where the two participated in a traditional commitment ceremony.
They were adorned in traditional clothing and used the ceremony, in the presence of Hounsou’s family, to confirm that they were “dedicated to each other 100%”, although they emphasized the ceremony was not a wedding. Hounsou and Simmons, who were never legally married in the United States, announced their separation in November 2012.
Djimon Hounsou Parents: Meet Pierre Hounsou, Albertine Hounsou
Djimon’s parents are Pierre Hounsou (father) and Albertine Hounsou (mother). But Djimon had grown up without his parents who moved to Ivory Coast.
In Djimon’s words, he was just a very torn child, wounded in so many areas with no family support. He was also their fifth and youngest child so everyone else was grown and had left home leaving the young starlet to survive all by himself.
Pierre and his wife were cooks by profession. Djimon met his father for the first time in his life when he was around 10 years old and because life was lonely for him, it was always a dream to escape the surrounding so he left Benin with his elder brother in search of greener pastures in France.
