Dileep A. Rao is an American actor who has appeared in feature films as well as television shows. On July 29, 1973, he was born. He has appeared in James Cameron’s science fiction series Avatar (2009-present), Sam Raimi’s horror film Drag Me to Hell (2009), and Christopher Nolan’s thriller Inception (2010).
Rao’s first role after graduation was in Tom Stoppard’s Indian Ink, which made its American premiere. Rao moved to Los Angeles and began working in regional theater with companies such as the Manhattan Theater Club, Berkeley Rep, and South Coast Repertory.
On June 7, 2002, he appeared on Jeopardy! and won $34,400. On June 8, 2008, Rao was picked at random from over 1,600 applications to play the NPR Weekend Edition Sunday puzzle live on air with Will Shortz.
In 2009, he appeared in Drag Me to Hell and Avatar. He was nominated for several awards as a member of the ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan’s 2010 film Inception. He played a pharmacologist in the film.
