South African musician and visual artist Mira Calix died on March 28, 2022.
She was also an award-winning artist and composer who viewed music and sound as a sculptural medium.
She exhibited audiovisual artwork for 16 weeks as part of the Syncopes exhibition at Mimosa House London in 2021.
Mira was born Chantal Francesca Passamonte in South Africa in 1970 and moved to London in 1991 to pursue a musical career.
She worked as a promoter and DJ while working PR for Warp before becoming one of the label’s first female artists.
Mira released a few singles and EPs before releasing her first full-length album, One On One, in 2000.
She went on to release six additional albums and many EPs in a variety of experimental styles and textures
She died at age 52.
