Lydia de Vega, a legendary track athlete from the Philippines, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, following a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57 at the time of her departure.

De Vega, a two-time Olympian, competed for the Philippines in the Summer Olympics in 1984 and 1988. She also won a silver medal in the 200-meter race at the Seoul Asiad in 1986, and she once broke the record while competing for a friend in the long jumps.
De Vega was one of the most honored athletes in the history of the nation. He won 15 gold medals at various international events, including nine at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games alone.
Stephanie “Paneng” Mercado-de Koenigswarter, De Vega’s daughter, wrote on social media late Wednesday, (She fought a very good fight and is now at peace.)
