Jorah Mormont is a fictional character in the epic novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by American author George R. R. Martin and its television adaptation Game of Thrones. Ser Jorah Mormont is the sole child of Night’s Watch Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, who abdicated immediately before Robert’s Rebellion to join the Night’s Watch and bestowed the lordship of Bear Island on Jorah.
As introduced in A Game of Thrones (1996), Jorah is a knight in exile, the disgraced former lord of Bear Island, and the only son of Jeor Mormont, the honourable lord commander of the Night’s Watch. Martin later included Jorah in his novels A Clash of Kings (1998), A Storm of Swords (2000), and A Dance with Dragons (2011).
