Legendary soul American soul musician Wilson Pickett was born on March 18, 1941, in Prattville, Alabama, and died on January 19, 2006, in Reston, Virginia.

Some of the hit songs among the more than fifty songs he wrote while he was alive include In the Midnight Hour, Land of 1,000 Dances, 634-5789, Mustang Sally, Funky Broadway, Engine No. 9, and Don’t Knock My Love.

Pickett and Hendrix performed in 1966 at a party organized by Atlantic Records to launch Percy Sledge’s single “When A Man Loves A Woman.”

Hendrix was by then not so famous so he played a backup role for the sizzling-hot Pickett.

They never got into the studio to record a song formerly as both of their careers led them in different directions.

Pickett has been an official member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1991. He was inducted into the Michigan Rock & Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2005. In 1993, the Rhythm and Blues Foundation honored him with the Pioneer Award for his services to the music industry.
