Jennifer Lynn Lopez grew up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx after being born there on July 24, 1969. Despite being from Puerto Rico, her parents David López and Guadalupe Rodriguez were brought up in the mainland United States.

David served in the military and then worked for Guardian Insurance Company as a computer technician. Guadalupe, who later worked as a Tupperware salesperson and a kindergarten and gym teacher, raised Lopez for his first ten years of life in her home. 33 years of marriage ended in a divorce in the 1990s.

For their admirers, Jennifer Lopez’s reconciliation with Ben Affleck and their subsequent July 17 surprise wedding in Las Vegas was nothing short of a fairy tale. But many weren’t pleased when the singer adopted Affleck’s last name.

A newspaper published an opinion article just a few days after their wedding in which they expressed displeasure that Lopez had chosen the actor’s last name at a time when feminism is on the rise.

She also explained that since they were now married, her legal name will be Mrs. Affleck. and is pleased with it.

The singer chuckled and ignored the issue when asked whether there’s a part of her that wants Affleck to be “Mr. Lopez,” claiming “it wasn’t conventional.”
