Freddy Rincon, a former Real Madrid star, has passed on after suffering severe head injuries in a car collision.
The 55-year-old former Colombian captain was driving a car that collided with a bus early Monday in Cali, Colombia.
Rincon was a dynamic midfielder who could play on the left, center, or in a more offensive midfield position.
He began his career with Santa Fe in 1986, completing 144 league matches for the club in three years.
He also won the Copa Colombia in 1989 while at Santa Fe, as well as national recognition for his ability.
Laureano Quintero, the medical director of the Imbanaco Clinic in Cali, announced his death saying his team did everything possible to rescue him but he died eventually.
The Colombian Football Federation has issued a statement expressing its condolences to the family of the deceased.
Corinthians, the Brazilian club where Rincon spent most of his career, has also released a statement expressing their profound condolences too.
