David Gold was a British businessman who lived from 9 September 1936 to 4 January 2023. Until 2009, he was the chairman of Birmingham City Football Club.
He was the joint chairman of West Ham United from 2010 until his death in 2023.
Gold Group International (GGI) is the parent company of Ann Summers and the lingerie chain Knickerbox. GGI was co-owned by Gold and his brother Ralph until Gold purchased Ralph’s share in 2008.
He co-owned Gold Star Publications (GSP) with his brother Ralph, which included printing and distribution businesses as well as a stable of titles such as Rustler and Raider. In November 2006, he and his brother sold their stakes. Following declining sales and profits, the brothers also sold their stake in Sport Newspapers in 2007.
He owned the corporate air service Gold Air International until 2006 when he sold it for £4.4 million.
Gold was a former chairman of Birmingham City Football Club. In 2007, the Gold brothers were rumored to be in the process of selling their stake in Birmingham City, following the club’s relegation and lower-than-expected profits. Gold was quoted as saying he was considering stepping down as Birmingham City’s joint chairman after the club was relegated to the Championship in May 2008. In 2009, he sold his Birmingham City shares.

Gold married Beryl Hunt in 1957. They divorced in 1972 after Gold discovered her having an affair with his best friend in his swimming pool on the same day he discovered his father stealing his shares. Hunt passed away in 2003. They had two kids:
