Mary Higgins Clark, as Mary Theresa Eleanor Higgins, was an American mystery and suspense author who spent more than 40 years as a regular on best-seller lists.

Mary died away in Naples, Florida, on January 31, 2020. She was born on December 24, 1927, in the Bronx, New York.

When Higgins was six years old, he started penning poems. She kept diaries throughout of her life and acknowledged that some of her tale ideas were influenced by the entries.
Her early struggles, particularly the loss of her father, which left her mother, who was middle-aged, to support the family of four, had a big impact on how she portrayed women as creative and tough.

Mary decided to put off going to college in favor of going to secretarial school to seek a career in an office, but after three years of working at an advertising firm, Mary joined Pan American World Airways in 1949 as a flight attendant. Her debut short tale “Stowaway” (1956), which was inspired by her time on the last flight into Czechoslovakia before it was cut off behind the Iron Curtain, was published.
