Any lover of Afrobeats knows the name, Burna Boy. In fact, you would have to be living under a rock to not know this name. And if you’re an avid fan of Burna Boy, I’m sure you must have come across the name, Mama Burna.

Bose Ogulu, also known as Mama Burna is a Nigerian academic, businesswoman, and manager. She is the manager of her son’s, Burna Boy’s, career, hence the nickname, Mama Burna.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign languages and a Masters of Arts in translation from the University of Port Harcourt. She has had a successful career working as a translator for the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce. She also taught French for a decade at the University of Education in Port Harcourt, before retiring in 2018.

Did Burna Boy’s mother dance for Fela?

The short answer is no.

In an interview with OkayAfrica in 2019, she said “How could I have danced for him? Chronologically, it doesn’t add up…when did I dance for Fela?”

However, since her father was the manager of Fela Kuti, she is bound to have a connection to him.
