Richard John Vitale, better known as “Dickie V,” was born in the United States on June 9, 1939. He is well recognized for his 41-year run as an ESPN college basketball announcer and his experience as a former head coach in both the collegiate and professional leagues.

He is well-known for his passionate and witty comments made during games, as well as catchphrases like “This is amazing, baby!” and “diaper dandy” for excellent freshmen players. In addition, he has written nine novels and made many cinema appearances.

He released a statement that he was undergoing treatment to remove melanoma that had been detected by doctors in August 2021.

In October of the same year, Vitale also announced that his doctors had diagnosed him with lymphoma which he would seek treatment to combat the illness.

Vitale, a color commentator, is frequently teamed with play-by-play announcer Mike Patrick, particularly during ACC games.
