Ecuadorian politician from the Citizen Revolution Movement Diana Carnero Elizalde has sadly passed away. She was a member of Naranjal City Council after being first elected in the 2023 Ecuadorian local elections.

Diana Carnero was shot in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people after wrapping up a meeting.
The 29-year-old Diana Carnero had just finished a council meeting in the town of Naranjal in Guayas on Wednesday afternoon and was recording a video about the poor road conditions when she was attacked.
Two male suspects approached her on a motorcycle and shot her in the head before fleeing, police said.
Bystanders rushed to provide first aid assistance to Carnero, who was rushed to Naranjal Basic Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Diana Carnero is yet to be buried.
However, Ecuador’s Attorney General’s Office said it would be leading the investigation. No arrests had been reported as of Thursday afternoon.
