Dermot O’Neill illness: What disease did Dermot O’Neill have?

In the summer of 2009, O’Neill was diagnosed with cancer. At first, it was thought to be a recurrence of a previous stomach ulcer. However, he was later diagnosed with stomach cancer as well as non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

He was then treated at Beacon Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, and St. Vincent’s Private Hospital. Later, he underwent chemotherapy under the care of Prof. John Crown and spent almost 6 months at St. Vincent’s.

In 2011, he was declared cancer-free.

After his recovery, he completed an RTÉ TV series titled Dermot’s Secret Gardan. The series was about his health problems and featured renovations of his Victorian walled garden in Clondeglass, Co. Laois.

O’Neill was also a patron of the homeless charity Threshold.
