In order to put an end to rumors of a meeting with Dereck Chisora, Deontay Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel advised that “The Bronze Bomber” fight the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua next.
After considering retirement, the former WBC heavyweight champion recently insisted he intends to fight again.
He hasn’t competed since being knocked out by Tyson Fury in October of last year.
While Frank Warren, who collaborated closely with Wilder and his staff throughout the Fury trilogy, has stated the American will face Robert Helenius in October, a bout with Andy Ruiz Jr. has been linked to the American.
Meanwhile, Usyk and Joshua will square off once more on August 20. The winner of that fight is likely to be in the running for a unification bout against WBC champion Tyson Fury, who has yet to break his retirement vow.
But Wilder’s manager Finkel thinks his fighter can enter the fray right away and compete for every prize should “The Gypsy King” honor his word and stay off the field.
“Perhaps Usyk and Joshua’s victor. I have no idea what Fury is doing.
There are many unknowns in that fight, so we’re interested to see what happens,’ Finkel said to Planet Sport.
“Perhaps if Joshua wins, it will be a huge fight in the UK (between those two).
