Dennis Brown siblings: Meet Basil Brown

Dennis Emmanuel Brown CD, born February 1, 1957, was a Jamaican reggae singer. During his prolific career, which began in the late 1960s when he was eleven years old, he released more than 75 albums and was a big star of lovers rock, a subgenre of reggae. Brown was dubbed “The Crown Prince of Reggae” by Bob Marley, and he would have a lasting impact on future generations of reggae vocalists.

His father, Arthur, was a writer, actor, and journalist, and he grew up in Kingston with his parents, three elder brothers, and a sister, albeit his mother died in the 1960s.

Despite having been interested in music since childhood and being a fan of American balladeers such as Brook Benton, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin, he began his singing career at the age of nine, while still in junior school, with an end-of-term concert, the first time he performed in public. He cited Nat King Cole as one of his early influences.
