Jason Day’s mother, Adenil Dening Day, died Wednesday night, according to a statement he made on social media. She was 65 years old at the time.
Day, a three-time winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, withdrew from the tournament on Wednesday, marking the third time in four years that he has done so.
Dening, who was born in the Philippines and studied nursing, met Day’s father, Alvyn, an Australian, through a letter he sent to Dening’s landlady’s sister looking for a wife.
Dening penned a statement after learning that the woman had relocated to Italy.
