President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued a stern directive to the newly appointed ministers to swiftly file their asset declarations.
During the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Monday, May 20, the president emphasized the importance of serving the public rather than seeking personal gains.
Addressing the new ministers, President Akufo-Addo stressed the significance of integrity in their work, especially in the last few months leading up to the 2024 December elections. He reminded them that their conduct will not only impact the success of his government but also the future of the NPP party and its candidates.
Despite the limited time left in their mandate, which expires on January 7, 2025, the president expressed confidence in the ability of the new appointees to make a significant impact. He encouraged them to use their competencies, experiences, and talents to deliver within the remaining seven months.
However, President Akufo-Addo expressed disappointment at the Minority’s decision to walk out during the approval process of the new ministers. Describing it as a ‘pity,’ he thanked God that the walkout did not affect the overall approval.
In response to the Minority’s actions, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson questioned the urgency of approving new ministers when the government already has a large number of ministers and deputy ministers. The walkout was accompanied by chants of “Ghanaians are suffering” as the opposition lawmakers left the chamber.
The approved ministerial nominees include individuals for various portfolios such as Health, Environment, Information, Gender, Local Government, and Tourism. Deputy ministerial nominees were also approved for roles in Information, Local Government, Communications, Health, Works and Housing, and Education, among others.
President Akufo-Addo urged the new ministers to focus on serving the public and maintaining integrity in their roles as they navigate the remaining months of their mandate.
