Dean Daughtry is a musician from the USA. On September 8, 1946, Daughtry was born in Kinston, Alabama.

In 2020, he admitted to AL.com, “I began taking piano lessons when I was 5 and my mother enjoyed gospel tunes, so I studied things like ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’.” He soon began performing in nearby juke clubs.

After Joe Wilson left Classics IV, he filled in as the keyboardist. With “Spooky,” they scored a 1968 hit that peaked at #3 in the US and #46 in the UK.

He was the Atlanta Rhythm Section’s lone steadfast member until his retirement in 2020, having co-founded the group in 1971.

The songs “So in to You” from 1977 and “Imaginary Lover” from 1978 both peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving them two top ten singles in the US.

At the age of 76, Daughtry passed away in Huntsville, Alabama, on January 26, 2023.
