
Staley was named to the Women’s Junior National Team of USA Basketball (now called the U19 team).
In July 1989, the team competed in the second Junior World Championship, which was held in Bilbao, Spain.
Team USA lost their first game in OT to South Korea, then lost a two-point game to Australia.
After overcoming Bulgaria, Team USA lost another close game, this time by three points to Czechoslovakia.
The team bounced back with a win over Zaire before losing by three points to Spain in the final game.
Over the duration of the tournament, Staley averaged 10.8 points per game and had 14 steals, both of which were second-highest on the team.
The Americans finished seventh in the competition.
Staley was named to the United States team.
